My school district is transitioning to the Next Generation Science Standards and does not have a published science program to help teach the standards.  Using online resources, I chose a lesson from the NGSS website and followed the SAMR process to include and redefine the lesson as much as I could for a kindergarten class.

One project we would complete is to take photos with an iPad and put them together to make a slideshow, as above.  The kids could have complete control over creating shadows.

Video Project

Since I teach kindergarten, I needed to use as simple of technology as possible. One activity that we do very frequently is retell familiar stories by using story strips. We put picture cards in the order they occur in the story, then we practice retelling the key events. I thought the students would enjoy recording themselves for this activity.

I chose to use iMovie since our classroom has access to several iPads. I simply recorded video and sound with Photo, then in iMovie I chose the correct clip or clips. I was able to easily trim the clips by sliding a yellow bar in and out. This technology will be appropriate for 5 and 6 year olds.

For my rubric I graded mostly on the content of the project, not the technical skills, with the exception being that every student should get to be the recorder and the speaker.

From Birth to Missoula

I was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL.  After high school, I attended the University of Florida at Gainesville (GO GATORS!).  I met my husband there, and soon after marriage we moved to Fort Collins, CO.  After our twin daughters were born, we moved to Aiken, SC, for a year, then moved back to Colorado to the small town of Walden.  Soon my husband was offered a job in Hot Springs, SD, where we stayed for 5 years.  Two years ago we relocated to Miles City and hope to be here for a long time!

By the way, I did this assignment two ways: one as an embedded link and one as a copied image.

First Post

Hello!  My name is Amy and I enjoy using technology, although I always seem to have "issues."  So I have become good at using Google to figure things out.

I used to blog about 10 years ago when my kids were born, before Facebook was popular.  This is my first course on my way to my graduate degree in C & I with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education.

I currently teach kindergarten in Miles City.  I use some basic technology in my classroom - Smartboard for calendar, youtube, and other various interactive sites.  I use Facebook and Remind to communicate with parents.  Google Drive is a must to collaborate with my colleagues and organize all of our ideas and projects.  Other than that I am excited to learn more!
